Objective

A fixture at the University of Buffalo since 1988, Dr. Matthew Withiam-Leitch recently transitioned to the Department of Family Medicine after spending 15 years in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Withiam-Leitch is an academic physician, having spent the entirety of his career in teaching and research positions at the University of Buffalo. He presently dedicates his professional energies exclusively to research, with several projects, studies, and interests currently under way. Dr. Withiam-Leitch, in conjunction with the lead investigator, is participating in an NIH-funded project to cultivate evidence-based care related to chronic kidney disease. Concurrently, Dr. Withiam-Leitch is working on a statistical model and related database to explore causality between disability status and chronic kidney disease. Over the course of his research career, Dr. Withiam-Leitch has developed deepening primary interests in resolving the social and medical issues facing those with recently acquired disabilities and in finding early detection protocols and advanced treatment options for uterine cancer.

Dr. Matthew Withiam-Leitch contributes to the overall operations of the School of Medicine at the University of Buffalo as an instructor, administrator, and executive. Currently, Dr. Withiam-Leitch functions as a Research Associate Professor of Family Medicine. Previously, he held positions as an Associate Professor and an Assistant Professor of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology. As an administrator, Dr. Withiam-Leitch presently serves as the Director of Acquired Disabilities Research, mirroring his current research interests, and has also served on the Executive Committee, the Education Committee, the Resident Selection Committee, and other committees of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Earlier in his affiliation with the University of Buffalo, Dr. Withiam-Leitch sat on the Governing Board and chaired the Compliance Committee, which oversaw the Faculty Practice Management Plan.

A Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Matthew Withiam-Leitch is a seasoned medical professional with over two decades of experience. He is certified through the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and he obtained both an M.D. and a Ph.D. in Medicine, Pharmacology, and Biochemistry from the University of Buffalo.
